How Do You Know If You’re Ready for a Mommy Makeover?

Posted July 31, 2025 in Mommy Makeover

If you’re a mom in Orange County and you’ve been thinking about restoring your pre-baby body, chances are you’ve come across the term “Mommy Makeover.” It may sound like a beauty trend, but a Mommy Makeover is actually a highly personalized combination of surgical procedures designed to address the physical changes that come with pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Most often, it includes a tummy tuck, breast enhancement, and body contouring, but the exact approach is tailored to your unique needs.

The benefits of a Mommy Makeover can be incredible—smoother contours, boosted confidence, better clothing fit, a renewed sense of femininity and self—but because it’s a major surgery, it’s not a decision to take lightly. So how do you know if now is the right time, or if you’re even a good candidate?

Here’s what I want my patients to know: getting a Mommy Makeover isn’t just about what you want to change—it’s about timing, readiness, and overall health. You’ll know you’re ready when you’re at a healthy, stable weight, your family is complete, you’ve fully recovered from pregnancy and breastfeeding, and you’re in a place—physically and emotionally—where you can say “yes” to yourself and your recovery.

You’re at or near your goal weight

A Mommy Makeover is designed to refine your body shape—not help you lose weight. It’s best to be at a healthy, stable weight that you feel comfortable maintaining long-term before surgery. Significant weight fluctuations afterward can impact your results, so I always encourage patients to reach their goal weight and hold it steady for a few months before moving forward.

You’re done having children

Pregnancy can stretch your skin, weaken your abdominal muscles, and significantly change the appearance of your breasts—even after just one child. With multiple pregnancies, those effects often become more pronounced, making it even more important to time your Mommy Makeover wisely. While a future pregnancy won’t harm your health or impact the surgery itself, it could undo many of the improvements made. If you’re planning—or even hoping—for more children, it’s usually best to wait until your family is complete.

You’ve recovered from childbirth and breastfeeding

Your body goes through tremendous changes during and after pregnancy. I typically recommend waiting at least six months after giving birth—or six months after you stop breastfeeding—to consider surgery. This gives your hormone levels time to stabilize, your skin and breast tissue time to settle, and your energy levels time to return—so you’re in the best place physically and emotionally to heal well.

You’re in good health and have support at home

Because a Mommy Makeover is a comprehensive surgery, it’s important that you’re in good overall health and a non-smoker. You’ll also need to enlist some help during recovery—especially during the first week or two—as lifting children, doing housework, or returning to your routine too soon can interfere with healing, increase the risk of complications, and compromise your results. Having a strong support system in place makes all the difference.

If you think you might be ready for a Mommy Makeover—or if you just want to learn more about the process—I’d be happy to meet with you. During your consultation, we’ll talk through your goals, answer all your questions, and create a personalized plan that’s safe, effective, and all about helping you feel your best.
